openweb vancouver. 2008

gad, how many years has it been since I posted last?

The beginning of this week I attended the open web conference...all open source people...talking...a number of Facebook people, google people, and PHP/Ruby dudes. I felt uncomfortable around them all...all too nerdy and green to me. Lacking experience. I'm curious to know whether they are making money, if their companies are profitable and growing.
The all seem to be so naive ...like they've not read anything online on how to fix a dumb simple problem they are encountering.

Russ and I met up with some big names in our business...we all have the potential to make a great deal of money. Being associated with the company I work with got me in A list crowd. some very sharp minds...their software is better than ours, has better features...but ours is more popular...they do everything right and don't succeed. we do a few things right and do succeed.

I was interested in the interactions between people, the power moves, body language, who made eye contact with whom...and who didn't. Russ was the centre of attention. everyone wanted to talk to Russ. He did a good job...got everyone excited...they liked listening to him and he's good at it.
